All in Existence of God
A theist may sometimes use a god-of-the-gaps argument when faced with a gap in our knowledge for a natural explanation for something. But if that gap begins to be filled with evidence from science, history, or logic and it increasingly points to God, a non-theist will often make a fantasy-of-the-gaps move to avoid it.
When you begin to conceive of a magnitude of beauty so powerful that the universe itself is unable to contain it, you have taken the first tiny step toward understanding who and what God is. Then do the same for justice, joy, music, love, purity, and every perfect gift. Then imagine a being who transcends time.
Why the idea that “nothing” caused the universe to come into existence, does not work.
Since we judge other people according to our own sense of justice, when we disagree with another person’s sense of justice, they will appear unjust to us. If our sense of justice is not perfect, we are likely to disagree with some aspects of perfect justice. Therefore, a perfectly just God will seem unjust to us.
Just as it makes no sense to talk about a high crime rate if there are no laws to break, in the same way we cannot take evil and injustice seriously unless there is some ultimate standard of beauty and goodness that is being violated.
In order to be the cause of time, God must necessarily be able to exist in a timeless state. It follows from this that God must be timeless, beginningless, and uncaused.
